As a starting point I approached the laser cutter as it seemed the most friendly of all the machines in the workshop, i think this is because it is something i have already heard of and involves minimal adjustments when setting up compared to the other machines. In hindsight i don't know whether this was a good way of approaching the CAM machines as i probably should have tackled a machine which scared me the most such as the milling machine or the CNC lathe which had more exposed parts and required more adjustments and set up. I guess i was just dipping my toe in as i was rather apprehensive.
What scares me about the CAM machines and what is preventing me from using them-
What I have learnt:
What scares me about the CAM machines and what is preventing me from using them-
- Lots of buttons and dials - not knowing what to press and where to start, it is all rather intimidating.
- Breaking the machine - doing something wrong and damaging the machine or causing an accident
- Not setting up the machine properly, such as changing the tool bits
What I have learnt:
- CAM Opens up the possibilities when creating products e.g creating complicated shapes. perfectly formed products and replicating the same shapes over and over quickly.
