I hadn't really considered my reasons for combining materials very carefully in my project aside from aethtic reason and wasn't until my latest project that combining materials was an important aspect of my design. I was using tetra Pak for my main outer wrapping which is made up 6 layers in a particular order to make it work in a particular way (see image below) I think look at a material like tetra pak was good for me understanding this section as I had originally just been looking at immediately obvious combinations of materials such as furniture, however it got me thinking about other 'invisible' combinations of materials which cannot be immediately seen or are not really aware of ....
- Mixing different metals to make alloys (combining metals to make them stronger, lighter etc...)
- Mixing plastics together to change their working properties such as Bioplastics
- Composite materials such as concrete
- Iron rods are used to reinforce concrete structures
- Recycled material can be mixed in with new materials
