During my design and make project i needed to add ties to my legs and attach the legs to the main body.When i think about what i would have done before looking into the variety of joints i would have probably used a butt joint and nailed the ties to each leg or maybe even glue gunned them (known as a temporary joint). Which seems almost ridiculous now and reasures me that i have come some way with this subject area.

Whilst looking online i came across a a great book full of simple wood joining techniques which decided to purchase. Im finding with research into practical subjects need to be explored beyond just reading online and in a book so think it would be beneficial to pick a couple of wood joint types and make some little practice pieces. This would also give me some hands on experience in the work shop and something i could incorporate into future projects.
When i first think of Joining techniques in Design and technology i instantly think of wood joints (although i only know of one, dove tail joints) I have no knowledge of joining techniques in metal work and plastic. As a starting point i would like to find out the following;
A good starting point would be some online research and looking in the library for some information. |
