After spending much more time in the workshop I have had a chance to witness good and bad health and safety. I've thought about some health and safety guidelines I would give based on what I have witnessed and learnt from my time in our workshop. What ive found with Health and safety is that it is mostly/if not all COMMON SENSE.
1. Wear appropriate foot wear and clothes for working.
2. Do not rush about or run in the workshop
3. Ensure you keep your workspace contained and clear up after you have finished
4. Report problems do not just leave it
5. Do not bring food or drink into the workshop
6. Do not use a machine unless you have completed a proforma and if unsure how to use it safely seek assistance.
7. Do not drape wires across the room when using power tools.
8. Do not talk or distract people when they are operating the machines
9. Ensure bags, coats and belonging are under the workbench and not placed on the floor or covering the work benches
10. Do not use machinery without another person or technician in the workshop
11. If you see another person who is working or behaving in an unsafe way tell them/stop them
I feel like I have a greater awareness of health and safety and feel confident that I conduct myself in a safe manner. The only accidents I have incurred have been paper cuts and a slicing my finger when sorting through the waste acrylic waste! Its also started to make me think about next year when im in a school and responsible for a class. Although the health and safety guidelines may seem like common sense to me they probably wont to a child.
