'Smart materials have one or more properties that can be significantly changed in a controlled fashion by external stimuli, such as stress, temperature, moisture, pH, electric or magnetic fields'
When first hearing the word 'Smart material' i imagined it to be something used in a laboratory or even dangerous to use. I was therefore surprised when handed some polymorph during a presentation and told this is a smart material!? i wasn't sure if i was relieved or slightly disappointed that it wasn't radioactive. It was great that smart materials are something that i could have access to , use so easily, and be used in the classroom! What i particularly liked about polymorph was it could be reheated and reshaped over and over again! meaning there is no waste.
After being exposed to a smart material i realised they are not scary at all and i am keen to look at other types of smart materials available. Although i would assume there are smart materials which are dangerous and not available for classroom use and would interesting to look at them as well
