Although I found modelling with card and foam was useful in terms of the determining the overall look and functions it didn't give me an insight to how the material I intended to use will affect the design and decided to change the way I was modelling my products.
Both my final products were going to be made from acrylic. Advantages of modelling out of the same material as the finished product compared to card was it gave a realistic depiction of what the actual product would look like and reveal problems which card modelling did not. For example when the net was bend the corners had a radius which affected how the doors attached and the angles were not quite 90 degree's due to the thickness of the acrylic which changed a lot of my measurements.
I have learnt the importance of modelling and using appropriate materials for doing so, I will still continue to use card and paper as a way of 3D sketching idea's but use other appropriate materials for further modelling.
WHERE NEXT?
All my modelling so far has been small little pieces, I think it would be beneficial if I created a to scale working model.
