After looking through the internet and design books in the library i created a quick visual aid (below) to demonstrate what innovative and functional are. What i realised looking through various designs was in most cases it is important to get a good balance between innovative and functionality. Although in some cases it will require more of one than the other. For example the school chair below (on the far left) is functional above any design aesthetics .... it is cheap, stackable, easy to clean, simple, light weight and easy to mass produce in comparison to the chair in the middle which isn't very practical or functional but aesthetically is very clever and more of a one off statement piece than a practical chair for sitting in.
I think seeing designs laid out side by side really helps see what these words actually mean and will help me consider what category my own design fall into!

- How will i make my design innovative and function?
