Colour Coding
When thinking about how to gauge my learning and when i have reached a particular mile stone i have used 5 colours to indicate what were i need to be with my subject knowledge. I tried to make my grading realistic and achievable ranging from totally clueless to confident, i am fully aware that it is impossible to be an expert in all of these subjects and feel that a good place to be with my subject knowledge is comfortable and competent.
WHAT (X) = I have no idea what this subject is or even what it means. In a nut shell ... Totally clueless!
A little bit (*) = I understand what it means, and have a rough idea about the subject
Not bad (**) = I have grasped the basics outlines of this subject and can give a explanation of some key concepts
Good *** = I have a fair amount of knowledge and I am applying this subject in my work
Smashing (****) = I have a good enough grasp of this subject, can talk confidently about it and have incorporated it into my work appropriately and effectively

Initial rating of subjects summery
As it stands my audit is predominantly coded red, meaning overall there are more subject i don't understand! eek! which is initially rather daunting and not sure how to start tackling this. The main area of concern is the System & Control section, however this was expected as I have no experience in this area. i will try and tackle a few of the subjects and researching some of the words i do not understand such as 'discrete component'?. In doing so i hope that these feared subjects are not as bad as they seem.
I think a good place to start with my audit would be to go through each section and write an initial statement and consider what this subject may be about and my initial thoughts giving me something to work on. It is possible i have been modest with my knowledge not wanting to appear too keen with my colours. I need to start turning all these reds into oranges and beyond.

Red (5) Orange (26) Yellow (12) Green (2) Blue (0)
There have been some drastic changes with the red colours in my subject knowledge cutting down on them dramatically and entering a predominantly orange grade. Going through each section helped as i actually did know more subjects than i had originally thought and was a little hard on myself. As the weeks went and had more experiences in the workshop I found i had been gaining a lot of subject knowledge surprisingly quickly and in some cases not realising until a few days later when looking through this audit. There are still however a few reds left and would like to eliminate them as soon as possible as next move with my subject knowledge.
I have a greater awareness of what most of the subjects mean and am moving forward into using them more confidently in my work but still a lot to work do. Hopefully i will start seeing the oranges move on to the next stage

Red (0) .Orange (4) Yellow (12) Green (23) Blue (7)
In my last review of this year i have definitely come along way from my first review which was prominently red and most of the subjects just drew a blank. I am now towards the other end of my colour coding and being competent in a lot more subjects and there is nothing on my audit that i do not know what it is, a stage i didn't think i would have got to last October. I think the problem i had with most of the subject was understanding the wording and once i started investigating what each section meant i discovered that i actually did know a little about it or it wasnt as complicated as i thought. When first presented with all these sections i thought how the hell am i going to tackle these however found that i ended up learning as i went along when engaging with the projects and lessons and didn't have to sit down and make my elf read about them it just happened naturally which I think gave me a much better understanding of them. Discovering myself was a lot more valuable then just reading it on wikkipedia.
There are still some areas to work on and still not where I wanted to be in some sections however i did my best in the short time I had. I started this course not even knowing how to use a saw, wondering what most of the machines do and thinking plastic was a natural material. I have definitely come a long way. I know that after another year ill be even further along and looking forward to it. .
